The pace has a purpose

Easy running is not a test you pass by going faster. It is the part of training that lets the rest of the work land.

When an easy day turns into a moderate one, you may still finish feeling accomplished. But you also carry more fatigue into tomorrow—and make the next important session harder than it needs to be.

The goal is not to prove your fitness on every run. The goal is to build fitness you can trust.

Let effort lead

Start slower than your ego wants. Keep your breathing conversational. If the weather, hills, or stress make the same pace feel harder, adjust. A good easy run is measured by how well it supports the week around it.

The proof

Patient running can feel almost too simple. Keep doing it. Consistency is rarely dramatic while it is happening, but its evidence shows up everywhere.
